Root Canal

There are several reasons why a tooth may require root canal treatment, though most commonly it is when decay (cavity) has become very deep and impacted the nerve.  When the nerve of a tooth has been impacted, it can lead to infection, swelling and pain.   To fix the pain and allow the patient to retain their tooth and not have it extracted, root canal treatment is performed.  

During the root canal treatment the nerve of the tooth is removed and the space filled with a special filling material.  For the best outcome for a root treated tooth, your Dentist may advise having it crowned.
